P.O.R.

The Northrop T-38 Talon is the US Air Force's first dedicated supersonic trainer. More than 1,100 were built as it became a vital part of Air Force training almost overnight in the early 1960s. Though now approaching some 30 years in the Air Force inventory, no replacement is currently in sight, and the aircraft is scheduled to remain in service for the foreseeable future. Extremely fast, agile, and relatively gentle, the T-38 remains a well-liked instructional tool. The T-38 borrows heavily from the F-5 and is aerodynamically refined to take advantage of area-ruling, which reduces the aircraft's overall drag, permitting an easier transition from subsonic to supersonic flight.
